Caves the world's cavers were still mapping in 2026.
Transcript
Around Phú Nhiêu and Yên Hợp, the limestone still keeps many secrets.
The British caving team led by Howard Limbert, who mapped the great caves of Phong Nha, has come back here again and again.
In spring 2026 they surveyed Mò Rọo cave, where about two thirds of the passage has to be swum.
There are no regular tours here yet. This is for travellers who want to arrive before everyone else.
Beyond Tân Hóa, around Yên Hợp and Phú Nhiêu, the limestone still keeps many secrets. The British caving team led by Howard Limbert, who mapped the Phong Nha – Kẻ Bàng caves, has come back to this area again and again.
In 2020 they surveyed Phú Nhiêu 4, over 2 km long, and Phú Nhiêu 2, named after the horned viper found inside. In spring 2026 they mapped Mò Rọo: the way in follows a stream and small waterfalls from Ón hamlet, and about two thirds of the cave has to be swum. Around them are Ràng cave and dozens more not yet on any tourist map.
There are no regular tours here yet. This is for travellers who want to arrive before everyone else, on foot with local people, at the forest's pace.
