Trung Hóa Grape Garden
Also known as Mr Thái's vineyard
An organic-style vineyard among the limestone, soon to open its gates to visitors.
Transcript
This is Cao Xuân Thái's grape garden in Trung Hóa.
In early 2024 he turned his family's mixed garden into a vineyard of Hạ Đen and Korean milk grapes, grown the organic way.
The first crop came in summer 2025. The vineyard is now expanding and will soon open to visitors.
Please call the owner before you drop by.
In early 2024 Cao Xuân Thái, a young farmer in Trung Hóa hamlet, came home from working in Taiwan and turned his family's mixed garden into a vineyard. He learned the techniques at a high-tech grape cooperative, then planted at home. The first crop came in summer 2025. He is now expanding the vineyard and adding more vines, getting ready to welcome visitors.
Where is it and how do you get there?
The vineyard is in Trung Hóa hamlet, Kim Phú commune, Quảng Trị province (formerly Minh Hóa district, Quảng Bình province), in the same area as Yên Phú lake: as the crow flies it is under 1 km from the lake and about 2 km from Khe Rinh Ford. The way in is a village lane, so tap "Open in Google Maps" to be guided to the right garden. Coming from Phong Nha? See the route from Phong Nha.
What grows here?
The vineyard grows Hạ Đen grapes (small and seedless) and Korean milk grapes (large, fragrant and very sweet), the organic way with high-tech care: a plastic roof against the rain, automatic watering and head-high iron trellises. Mr Thái also grows Taiwanese guava and Thai custard apples.

When are the grapes ripe?
The first crop ripened in summer 2025. Once the vines are mature they can give two crops a year. Timing changes with each crop and the weather, so ask Mr Thái before you go.

What can you do there?
The vineyard will soon open to visitors. When it does, you can walk under the vines, take photos, see how grapes are grown in the mountains and buy grapes in season. Opening details will be posted on this page.

What is nearby?
The vineyard sits in the cluster around the commune centre: Yên Phú lake under 1 km away, Khe Rinh Ford about 2 km, Rục Mòn cave about 4 km and Tân Hóa village about 8 km (straight-line). Combine it with a morning at Yên Phú lake, then head to Tân Hóa for dinner and a night in a floating house.
Good to know
The vineyard does not yet open regularly, so call or message Mr Cao Xuân Thái on +84 828 973 222 (Vietnamese) before you come. This is a family garden: follow the owner's lead, don't break branches or step on the roots.
