On 12 June 2026 the Quảng Trị Provincial People's Committee issued Decision 2244/QĐ-UBND recognising the Kim Phú tourism area as a provincial tourism area, with boundaries set by the attached map.
The tourism area covers about 329 km² of the commune's more than 550 km² and holds some 50 caves. Its main sights are Tân Hóa village, the Tú Làn cave system, Yên Phú lake, Rục Mòn cave, Hung Tru valley and the Rục village of Yên Hợp.
One practical result of the new status: visitors no longer need a border-area permit inside the tourism area.
