Visitors to the Kim Phú tourism area, including Tân Hóa village, the Tú Làn caves and Yên Phú lake, no longer need a border-area permit or pay a permit fee.
Many older articles and tour pages still say that visitors, especially foreigners, need a border-area permit for the Tú Làn caves or Tân Hóa village. That information is out of date.
Under Decision 2244/QĐ-UBND of the Quảng Trị Provincial People's Committee, dated 12 June 2026, Kim Phú is a provincial tourism area, with boundaries set by the map attached to the decision. Inside the tourism area, visitors need no border-area permit and pay no permit fee.
If you plan to go beyond the tourism area, for example deep into the forests near the border, ask the Kim Phú Commune People's Committee first. Guides, tour operators and hosts are welcome to link to our “Permits & getting here” page.
